We managed to get out to play golf this Saturday.
We were a 3-ball amongst a full tee sheet, with a new group of goflers going out every 8 minutes before us and after us.
We'd rather not dwell on the scorecard, it wasn't too pretty...
But let's say there are 5 hours worth of goflers teeing off in the Winter golf months.
Assuming they're 2-balls – some will be less, some will be more – that's close to 40 golfers on Saturday.
If every golfer that day lost 1 plastic golf tee in their 18 hole golf round, that's 40 plastic golf tees going into the ground.
In one day... in one single golf club in the south of Wales.
Let's scale that up.
There are 2,270 golf clubs in the UK. That's potentially over 90,000 plastic golf tees being left in the ground in one single Saturday in Winter.
We really believe that this needs addressing.
Our aim is to massively reduce that plastic waste on our golf courses by converting golfers to Spike Golf bamboo golf tees.
Bamboo golf tees are almost 4x the strength of regular wooden golf tees, so they'll snap less frequently.
But more importantly, bamboo golf tees are biodegradable.
Yes, they'll still break, like every golf tee breaks – but at least bamboo golf tees break down.
Every lost bamboo golf tee on a golf course on a Saturday in the middle of Winter doesn't stay in the ground for up to 1000 years. It can be gone in as little as 4 months.
Make the switch to bamboo golf tees, and help us bring Death to Plastic Golf Tees.
